Call for Fast Abstracts

Fast Abstracts are short presentations of work in progress or opinion pieces. Fast Abstracts aim to serve as a rapid and flexible forum at EDCC-7 to:

·         Report on current work that may not yet be complete

·         Introduce new ideas to the community

·         State positions on controversial issues or open problems

Presentation. Contributions relevant to the topics of the conference are welcome from academia and industry. Participants in this track will present a 10-minute talk in a Fast Abstracts session. The authors are also invited (but not required) to bring a poster of their presentation. The poster will be displayed during the conference. Details about format of the poster will be sent to the authors upon acceptance of their contributions.

Publication. A summary of the presentation (4 pages maximum length) will be published in the Supplement Volume to the Proceedings of  EDCC-7. A Fast Abstract must be submitted in its final form, ready to be printed. Fast Abstracts are limited to 4 pages, and the authors are required to follow the IEEE Computer Society templates and instructions.

Submission. Submissions must be sent to the Fast Abstracts Chair, Jose Orlando Pereira, by e-mail  (jop@di.uminho.pt), in PDF format. Fast Abstracts will not be refereed. Instead, the Fast Abstracts Chair and the Conference Program Chair will  screen the submissions. The criterion for acceptance will be the relevance and interest to the dependable computing community. We will accept as many Fast Abstracts as possible; the number is limited by the available presentation time at the conference. By submitting a Fast Abstract, you are committing yourself or one of your colleagues to present it at the conference. An accepted Fast Abstract will be published in the Supplemental Volume of Proceedings only if the registration of the presenter is received within 10 days of the acceptance.

Venue of EDCC-7. The conference is co-sponsored by Vytautas Magnus University and will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania. Kaunas is a university town that has 12 academic institutions with close to 50000 students in a population of 350000. The conference will be held in a brand-new four star hotel (Reval Hotel Neris) that has excellent conference facilities and wireless Internet connection in every room. The social event of the conference will acquaint you with the folklore and the traditional kitchen of the Lithuanian people. The principal international airport of Lithuania is in the capital city of Vilnius, 100 kilometers from Kaunas. The staff of the conference hotel will coordinate the transportation between Vilnius airport and the conference hotel.

Important dates:

  • Deadline for submissions: 15th March 2008.

  • Author notification: 20th March 2008.
